What's 316? Stainless Steel?
It is common to add alloys onto steel to increase the desired properties. For instance, the marine-grade stainlesssteel called Type 316, is resistant to corrosive environments.
There are several different kinds of stainless steel 316. Common types include L, F, , and H variations. Each differs slightly, and is utilized for the same purpose. L means that 316L steel is more carbon than 316.
the 316 and 316L Stainless Steel Common Quality
Although they're comparable to Type 304 commonly found in the food industry, Type 316 and 316L both have better resistance to corrosion and are more robust in high temperatures. They cannot also be hardened with heat treatment and can be easily stretched and shaped.
There is a difference in 316L and the 316 version of HTML. Stainless Steel
The stainless steel of 316L is lower in carbon than 316. Although it has a reduced carbon level, 316L is very similar to 316 in virtually every way. The cost is comparable, and both are durable and resistant, making the two a great choice for stressful situations.
However, for projects that require a lot of welding is the better option since 316 is more susceptible to welding corrosion over more 316L (corrosion on the inside of the welding). However, 316L can be annealed to protect against welding attenuation. This is a suitable stainless for high temperature, high corrosion applications This is why it is so widely used for marine and construction.
It is not clear if 316 or 316L is the most affordable option. The 304 is comparable to the 304L however the cost is much lower. This isn't as sturdy as the 317 or 317L, which have higher molybdenum levels and superior in general resistance to corrosion.
